This means I can buy something for $500,000.<\/p>\n<p>But stop right there!<\/p>\n<p>This is a trap.<\/p>\n<p>People let how much they can borrow determine other factors related to a loan (e.g., now that I am borrowing $400,000, how long will it take me to pay it off).<\/p>\n<p>Just because there is a maximum you can borrow, you don\u2019t actually have to borrow it.<\/p>\n<p>Just because your lender can give you a lot, that doesn\u2019t mean you need to borrow that much.<\/p>\n<p>We looked at in reverse before we decided how much we wanted to borrow.<\/p>\n<p>To be able to do this we asked ourselves two very important questions:<\/p>\n<p>(1) How much can I repay (per week, fortnight or month)? and<\/p>\n<p>(2) How long do I want to have a home loan for?<\/p>\n<p>So here it is, free to use, I have created a calculator that can work it out for you.
